Well we finally got the computer working properly so here is what's happening:

Neil Flynn of Salty Towers just caught a 35 pound spring/tyee. Well done Neil. He was out fishing with acclaimed guide Mark Price of Foot Loose Charters.

Report from Island Outfitters and the JDF Derby held this past weekend.

Sooke
Salmon fishing was GOOD this past week: lots of big springs are still being caught. Ron Leier got the winner of the Juan de Fuca Derby off of Muir Creek, which weighed 42.29 lbs. There were also lots of fish reported from Sheringham Point and Otter Point. Anchovies are catching the majority of fish, so try Rhys Davis Anchovy Specials or JDF Teasers in Green/Chrome or Purple Haze. With spoons try Watermelon, Mongoose or Green/Nickel color combinations with 4” and 3.5 “ Coyotes, Gypsies and Titans. The best plastic baits to try are Purple Haze, Army Tuck or Green/White hootchies or squirts.
HALIBUT Halibut fishing was SLOW and not too many anglers tried for the big flatties. Extra Large herring and/or octopus are the most popular baits, however, there are lots of dogfish around so you can try Mudraker or Lucky Jigs or the new Glow in the Dark bullet Jig with Berkley or Delta grubs if they are a problem.
Becher Bay
All reports were that fishing for springs was still GOOD last week in East Sooke, but watch out cause there are lots of seals hanging around! The weather made it tough to get out some days, but anglers who braved the winds had good success for the most part out there. There are lots of fish around in the high teens and early twenties with the odd lunker thrown into the mix. Milco Jadresko managed to find a beautiful 45.1 pounder to take over top spot on the Island Outfitters leader board! He got the big one on an anchovy trolled at 62 feet. Brain Bradbury had to fight off a couple of seals for an impressive 7 springs, the largest of which weighed 37.5 lbs. Both bigger fish were caught at the Trap Shack, but the Head and Aldridge also fished well last week. Anchovy is the most popular bait these days, and Rhys Davis teaser heads in Green/Chrome/Scale or the new “Nose Bleed” patterns seem to be doing best. If you fish spoons, try Green/Silver, Watermelon or Mongoose color patterns. The best bets for plastics are Green & White and Purple Haze Hootchies or squirts.

Notable Catches
Ron Leier deserves top congratulations and a hefty cheque for winning the 21st Annual Juan de Fuca Salmon Championship. His 42.29 lb beauty was caught off of Muir Creek in Sooke. Second and third place went to Jay Schilling (35.74 lbs) and Gilles Derepentigny (32.44 lbs) respectively. Milco Jadresko got a beautiful 45.1 lb spring just days before the derby! Oh well, he takes top spot on the Island Outfitters derby ladder as a consolation! Finally, Brian Bradbury had an awesome 7-fish day, with a big fish of 37.5 lbs.
